I really like the subtle blends of colour here. The reddish purple and blue in the dark hair and the shadows on her coat. The stark white really stands out against the colour and draws the viewer towards her face highlighting her expression with the big bold eyes and bright red lip. The yellow background also works to make the dark hair stand out and push the character tot he foreground One thing I feel is that the curls on the edge of her hair and those picked out in green seem a little like an after-thought or at last don't quite seem to follow the shape of the hair. The rgeen would perhaps have been better used to pickout highlights, whereas at the moment it seems to sit on top of the hair without purpose. Overall thisis a lovely piece to look at
The first thing that captured my eyes when I looked at the painting was the vivid harmony of colours, the dark blue and the pinkish colour melt into purple, and they amend each other well. This purple colour and yellow in the background give a warm hue complementing the cool blue. The plain light skin is well highlighted in this environment. The facial expression is very emotive, especially because of the eyes – it is also interesting that one of them bear with warmer colours, while the other one with cooler. The turquoise ornaments are like plants, thin leaves; but because of the crest and all the colors it reminds me of the feathers of a peacock. Overall it is impressive, elegant, rich in beautiful colors and technically great; I do not think I could say anything bad about it.
Why, thank you so much. One day I was listening to 92 Degrees by Siouxsie and the Banshees in the desert over and over and that's when I knew I had to paint her.
